Stunning Beaches
Winner of the Blue Flag Award
Everybody knows there’s no better place to be than beside the sea. We’re very lucky in Blackpool to be surrounded by miles of golden sand, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
Taking a dip in the sea, walking the dog along the beach and enjoying a picnic on the sand dunes, are just some of the wonderful things we’re able to do living on the Fylde Coast. Sometimes, if we’re lucky, we can even bask in the sunshine with a spot of beachfront afternoon tea!
In Blackpool, we all like to do our bit to help keep our beaches safe and pleasant, with locals taking part in regular beach-cleaning events. There are four stretches of the Blackpool coast that are designated bathing waters, and eight across the Fylde coast.
In 2018, all four of Blackpool’s bathing waters passed the new European Directive. It isn’t uncommon to see dolphins at certain times of the year either!
Pretty Villages
Blackpool is located within touching distance of several pretty villages and historic market towns in the Wyre borough including Garstang and Poulton-le-Fylde.
Dating back to the early 1300’s, a weekly market providing everything from children’s clothing, to household goods, is held in Garstang, whilst Poulton is renowned for its quirky shops and cobbled streets.
The nearby conurbation of Lytham St Annes is also a key area of interest. It retains many of its traditional Edwardian and Victorian properties for those seeking accommodation filled with authentic character and offers fantastic schooling for young adults and children.
It also has its very own championship golf course, Royal Lytham & St Annes, and hosts the annual Lytham festival, Lancashire’s largest live music event.
Eating well is assured too as the Over Wyre group of villages, positioned on the Fylde, are a fine source for quality fresh seasonal, local and regional produce.
One of the area’s best hidden gems
The Fylde area has been recognised as one of ‘The Best Places to Live’ in a recent Sunday Times guide, with Fylde and Wyre being comprised of many quaint towns and villages. Its historic streets are full of many fashionable independent shops, restaurants and public houses.
